An accident can strike anyone at any time, and often accidents, whether it is a workplace injury, a slip and fall, or a car accident, can lead to serious injuries that may affect a victim for a substantial amount of time. Many injuries lead to long-term or even life-long care.

The brain is one of the most important and complex organs in the human body. Although it is protected by a thick and durable skull, any blow to the head could also lead to a head injury. Minor head injuries often lead to concussions, but for victims who suffer a severe blow to the head, the damage can be far worse.

Traumatic brain injuries, or TBI’s occur can lead to serious injuries that may impact many aspects of a victim’s life, including their ability to work. Head injuries are among the injuries recognized by the Social Security Administration as a condition that may entitle a victim to receive Social Security disability benefits. One must first prove that the injury has left them unable to work for at least a year or that the injury is expected to end in death.

Although Social Security disability benefits are not designed to fully cover a victim’s medical expenses or rehabilitation costs, they can offer some financial relief to someone who is dealing with the injury and is unable to earn an income due to the injury. The application process may appear to be challenging for some; finding a firm familiar with Social Security disability may be helpful in filling out an application and assuring the best chance of the application being approved.
