Many of our Los Angeles readers probably know that Social Security Disability benefits for illnesses can be awarded to an applicant even if their illness isn’t expected to lead to death. If an illness causes long-term disability, that is usually enough to get approved to receive SSD benefits. However, some of our readers may not know that there are certain illnesses and diseases that can result in an application being approved faster than others. Individuals suffering from some of these particular diseases and illnesses are approved for SSD benefits under the “Compassionate Allowances” part of the Social Security Disability program.
Why would the Social Security Administration set up this type of fast-track for approval? There are probably two reasons. The first would be efficiency. If an applicant has documentation that he has been diagnosed with a particular condition that almost universally leads to an approval to receive SSD benefits, there is no need for SSA officials to conduct a more extensive review if such a review would be redundant.
The second reason is time, the applicant’s time. Most of the illnesses and diseases that could lead to approval under the Compassionate Allowance program are some of the most serious conditions a person could face, and they are often deadly. Getting a person who is suffering from one of these conditions approved quickly could ensure that the individual has the SSD benefits when they are needed the most.
Many different illnesses and diseases leave Los Angeles residents disabled and unable to earn an income. Anyone who wants to determine whether or not they would qualify for SSD benefits under the Compassionate Allowance program should get more information about their individual circumstances.
