Listing Of Impairments
Los Angeles Listing of Impairments Lawyers
The Social Security Administration (SSA) has a listing of impairments that details what conditions they consider severe enough to make it impossible for a person to perform substantial gainful employment. If the SSA decides that your condition(s) sufficiently limits your ability to support yourself or your family, you will be granted Social Security Disability (SSD) benefits.
Interpreting the listing of impairments and determining how they apply to you can be difficult. The experienced SSD attorney at the Disability Rights Law Center in California can help you through the process. For a free consultation, please call 213-784-4386 or contact us online.
How the Listing of Impairments Works
The majority of the impairments on the list are permanent or expected to lead to death. If the impairment is not permanent or fatal, you must be able to provide evidence that the impairment has lasted or will last for at least 12 consecutive months. For adults and children under age 18, the listings are the same, except when the disease/condition has a different effect on children.
According to the SSA, the listing of impairments criteria are applicable to evaluation of claims for disability benefits under the Social Security Disability Insurance program or payments under the SSI program. The listing of impairments categories are:
|1.00 Musculoskeletal System||2.00 Special Senses and Speech|
|3.00 Respiratory System||4.00 Cardiovascular System|
|5.00 Digestive System||6.00 Genitourinary Impairments|
|7.00 Hematological Disorders||8.00 Skin Disorders|
|9.00 Endocrine System||10.00 Impairments Affecting Multiple Body Systems|
|11.00 Neurological||12.00 Mental Disorders|
|13.00 Malignant Neoplastic Diseases||14.00 Immune System Disorders|
