How quickly will Californians get a decision on SDD?

| Sep 25, 2015 | Social Security Disability Benefits

In today’s world, many Californians are seeking instant gratification. For our Los Angeles readers, it may seem like the world is moving a lot faster today than it was 20 years ago. And, that is with good reason. The Internet and other forms of communication have made it possible for information and goods to transfer much more quickly. In fact, the Social Security Administration (SSA) has taken advantage of this by making it possible for people to submit an application for Social Security Disability (SSD) benefits online.

Nonetheless, anyone who submits an online application for SSD benefits may want to temper their expectations on how quickly they will receive a determination as to their eligibility. As many of our Los Angeles readers may already know, the SSA is dealing with a backlog of applications for SSD benefits, although the agency is working to process those applications as quickly as possible.

But, how quickly can you expect to hear an answer from the SSA regarding SSD benefits? Well, according to the SSA website, the timeframe could vary depending on a variety of factors. Perhaps, the most important factor, however, is the nature of the person’s disability.

What can a Los Angeles resident do to help expedite the review process for their SSD benefits application? In most cases the only thing that an applicant can do is to make sure that the application is as complete as possible upon the initial submission. This means that all of the requisite medical information is included, as well as the contact information for doctors or other medical professionals so that the SSA can retrieve further documentation, if needed.
