Social Security Disability has helped many Americans for 60 years

Government programs can get a lot of negative press coverage, which sometimes makes it difficult to see that these programs actually do help millions of Americans. In the case of Social Security Disability, it is a program that has been around for 60 years.

Have changes been made over the years to make Social Security Disability even more beneficial? Absolutely. Originally there were quite a few more restrictions on who could get access to SSD benefits, like limiting the benefits to those who were over the age of 50 and enforcing a six-month waiting period. Now, anyone who is familiar with previous posts here knows that the age of a disabled worker doesn’t matter. But while there is no longer a six-month waiting period, it can seem like there is a waiting period for those who patiently wait to see whether or not they will be approved to receive benefits.

The time that applicants wait in order to learn if they are going to be approved for SSD benefits is something that the Social Security Administration is currently working to improve. The SSA is working to make other improvements as well, such as allowing applications for benefits to be submitted via the Internet.

Social Security Disability, as an ever-improving government program, helps millions of Americans with their financial needs. In fact, over 10 million people currently receive SSD benefits. Los Angeles residents who have become disabled may be able to be approved for SSD benefits.
