Although most commonly associated with aging, osteoarthritis (arthritis) can have other causes, including injury, obesity, heredity and muscle weakness. In some cases, a combination of these factors may be the cause. No matter why it happens, however, arthritis can be extremely painful and debilitating.

We are familiar with the causes and symptoms, and we understand the effect arthritis has on people’s lives. Our attorney and staff will work with you to submit a strong application for Social Security Disability/Supplemental Security Income (SSD/SSI) benefits. Symptoms and Effects

Arthritis can become disabling because of the severe and pervasive nature of its symptoms. People may experience joint pain, tenderness and stiffness. They may feel the bones grating against each other when they use the affected joint. In addition, bone spurs can develop around the joint.

As symptoms worsen, the pain may become constant. The muscles and ligaments around the affected joint can weaken. These problems can result in limited movement and range of motion, as well as inability to sit or stand for any length of time. It is no surprise, then, that arthritis may make it impossible to do any type of work.

The Social Security Administration (SSA) has testing criteria for weight-bearing joints, upper extremities and lower extremities. We can explain each of these to you. We will also make sure you include the necessary medical tests and assessments that describe your residual functional capacity. X-rays usually show evidence of arthritis and are an important part of your application.
